Cook History and Heritage

Samuel Cook was a forge master in the American Revolution, and in 1796, he settled in the Ticonderoga area. Descendants of Samuel Cook have lived along the shores of Lake George ever since. Mountains and islands still carry the family name. The Lake George Conservancy’s Cook Mountain Preserve (open to the public for hiking) is less than a mile away from Heart Bay Lodges. Today, the Cook family retains close to 300 acres of its original Colonial era holdings. Most of our land has been preserved in its natural state.

We love Lake George and feel a profound responsibility to maintain the beauty and environmental integrity of our inheritance. Generations of Cooks have grown up here hiking the woods, working the land, swimming and boating. We are pleased to be able to share our special place with others who come for the rest and renewal that a vacation at the lake provides. Many of our guests have been coming here for years – two families are fourth generation returnees! We are confident that you will love it here too.
